Have you ever dreamed of flying to Iceland? If you are a budget traveler as I am, you may have looked at different low-cost airlines to get you there, or other destinations in Europe, which begs the question: what is WOW airlines? In this post, I’ll tell you a little bit about WOW air. Plus, I recently applied to be their summer travel guide, which inspired me to make this informative yet entertaining guide to the most fun things to do in Santa Monica, California. If you’re visiting Los Angeles, I hope this guide helps you plan your trip to the Best Coast. Side note: WOW air flies into Los Angeles International Airport, which is only a 20-minute drive from Santa Monica.
What is WOW Airlines?
WOW air is a budget airline based in Reykjavik, Iceland.
I first heard of WOW air a few years ago when I was a travel reporter for USA Today, and my jaw dropped when I uncovered their cheap flights from the US to Europe including one of the coolest countries I still can’t wait to visit: Iceland. WOW air flights cruise in and out of destinations across Europe, Canada, the US, and Asia like Alicante, Montreal, Chicago, and Tel Aviv. Also, they recently announced a new flight path to New Delhi, India! If you’re flying out of Los Angeles, as I would for example, you can choose from 22 different destinations (woot woot).
And right meow, WOW air flights from the US will let you fly to Iceland for — not a joke — rates starting at $99.99 from select cities.

Other tips for visiting Santa Monica
How far is Santa Monica from LA? Technically, Santa Monica is in Los Angeles, though it is considered its own city. Factoid alert: Los Angeles county actually contains 88 different cities! Getting from Los Angeles International Airport to Santa Monica will take you around 20 minutes without traffic; during rush hour, though, expect double that (yikes, I know!). An Uber or Lyft usually costs me around $25 one way. I took a peak at shuttles, but I actually wont mention those here because ride share is your best option — you’ll arrive in the same amount of time, for the same price, without the hassle.
If you need a map of Santa Monica, here is a free one provided by the city. Now get out there and explore!
